One Strange Scenario

Thanks to a six-game regular season skid, HEAT Check’s chances of making the NBA 2K League Playoffs grow dimmer by the day.

However, Miami has *not* yet been mathematically ‘snapped’ from the postseason.

We’ve gone forward in time (not really) peeked into 14,000,605 timelines (impossible) and found one outcome where HEAT Check Gaming makes the playoffs (this is true).

Check out the following scenario for a game-by-game breakdown of Weeks 11 and 12 to see what it would take for Miami to have a chance at making it back to the promised land for a second consecutive season. (For the record, this may not be the *only* possible scenario, just one very outlandish one.)

ONE STRANGE SCENARIO

*** First and foremost, MIA must win out against its last four opponents (MIN, TOR, DET, ATL) for this scenario to even be a possibility. ***

Assuming that happens, HEAT Check must follow the league’s seeding hierarchy (based on regular season games):

  1. Winning Percentage
  2. HEAD to HEAD Matchup
  3. Average Point Differential (APD)
  4. Total Points Scored
  5. Coin Flip

Here’s where things begin to get a little trickier. Teams that must win for Miami’s ‘Strange Scenario’ are bolded below:

Week 12 (All times ET)

If the schedule breaks down EXACTLY how described above, HEAT Check Gaming has now won its way into a NINE-TEAM TIEBREAKER with the following squads at 8-8 records fighting for TWO open Playoff spots:

  • Magic Gaming
  • T-Wolves Gaming
  • Cavs Legion GC
  • Bucks Gaming
  • Warriors Gaming Squad
  • Raptors Gaming
  • Grizz Gaming
  • Wizards DG

You’ll notice one of those teams is Warriors Gaming Squad, who won The TICKET in Orlando, granting them an automatic bid to the playoffs, leaving only one slot for the remaining eight teams. Golden State won’t need to worry about missing the postseason, but because they achieve an 8-8 record based on the above predictions, they are included in the Head to Head matchup tie-breaker, which favors Miami considerably.

The chart below breaks down one wild Head to Head Matchup tie-breaker if everything works out as previously described (read from left to right):

Based on this chart, Warriors Gaming Squad, Grizz Gaming and HEAT Check Gaming all finish with a 4-2 record against the other teams in the tie-breaker scenario.

Excluding Warriors Gaming Squad since they have the automatic bid, Grizz Gaming and HEAT Check Gaming move on to the next tie-breaker – Average Point Differential (APD).

Before any of Week 11’s games are played, Grizz Gaming has a 2.0 APD, while HEAT Check Gaming is currently at a -1.8 APD.

However, if things play out as we are predicting they will (heh) to make this pipe dream a reality, HEAT Check has a good shot of overcoming that 3.8 APD difference with Grizz Gaming, owning the final tie-breaker, and squeaking into the playoffs by the skin of their teeth.

That’s right: we’re saying there’s a chance.

Make sure to catch the End Game (yeah we’re going all in on this one) starting Wednesday at 8 PM ET against T-Wolves Gaming on twitch.tv/HEATCheckGaming.
