PROTECTED: Hotshot and Majes7ic locked in at Player Protection Deadline

HEAT Check Gaming Head Coach & GM Famous Enough decided last Monday to lay the foundation for next year’s squad with two familiar faces – his 2018 MVP Candidate, Hotshot, and a player he’s more-than-once referred to as a Swiss-army knife, Majes7ic.

“We know things didn’t go how we wanted in Season 2. Expectations were not met,” explained the Coach. “Today we are making moves to get back on track for next season by locking up Hotshot and Majes7ic.”

Hotshot, a Miami native, was one of the most dominant post players of any team in Season 2, averaging 15 PPG, 11.5 RPG, 5.6 APG and 2.4 SPG over 15 regular season games. He was named Week 5 Player of the Week for his efforts, and earned All-NBA 2K League 2nd Team Honors as well.

Hotshot is the type of player you may only get once in your career,” Famous Enough emphasized. “You hold on to those type of players as long as you can – it was a no-brainer to keep him in South Florida.”

In addition to his reputation as a front court force, Hotshot showed he’s got plenty of backcourt chops as well when he dropped 25 points and 15 assists as a point guard in the final game of season 2 against Hawks Talon GC.

“That’s my hometown team,” said Hotshot when asked about being protected Monday by Miami, where he’ll be playing for a third year.

“Being back for a third season is awesome, and I can’t wait to get back to work.”

Meanwhile, Majes7ic played all 16 regular season games, averaging 10.3 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.3 APG and 1.8 SPG. He also earned his first career Player of the Game honors in Week 11, following a 63-55 win over Raptors GC.

“He’s the kind of player who can do many things really well, explained Famous when talking about Majes7ic’s skillset. “You can plug him in at any position because his 2K IQ is through the roof, so we’re happy to bring him back for Season 3.”

The pair were the first (Hotshot, Rd. 1/Pk. 7, 2018) and second draft picks (Majes7ic, Rd. 2, Pk. 11, 2018) in franchise history, and Famous is hoping they will be the core pieces of a Season 3 squad that can uplift the organization after the team’s disappointing 6-10 year.

“Season 2 was a wakeup call. That record doesn’t define what we’re capable of,” said Majes7ic after hearing of the team’s announcement that he was being protected ahead of the NBA 2K League Expansion Draft.

“We’re a household name in this league and its time to bring back some hardware.”
