Recap: HCG Blow Out Knicks Gaming In Season Opener

Coming into Wednesday night’s regular season opener against Knicks Gaming, HEAT Check Gaming’s veteran trio of Hotshot, Majes7ic, and 24K Dropoff worked hard to downplay any kind of notion that ‘revenge’ was at all on their minds.

“It’s the regular season, this game, doesn’t mean as much to me as it did last year – obviously we lost the finals – but a win would be great here,” Hotshot said to NBA2KLeague sideline reporter Alex Giaimo before tipoff.

Regardless of what their mindset heading into the match was, the final score of 80-59 shows that the vets and rooks were locked in and laser-focused on starting off Season 2 with a bang.

The match began slowly for Miami, as New York’s defense managed to keep the score at 12-9 after one quarter. However, it was clear HEAT Check was playing aggressive and confidently midway through the second quarter, as they slowly stretched the lead off multiple turnovers that led to fast break scores.

Soon after halftime, it was clear Knicks Gaming had no chance of closing the gap with the way Miami’s overall game was flowing on both ends of the floors.

JMoneyRep817 led the way offensively, scoring 24 points to go with five assists and three rebounds. Majes7ic was a pure scorer from the wing this game, scoring 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, Hotshot’s well-balanced stat line speaks for itself – the Miami native scored 14 points to go with nine rebounds, seven assists, six steals, two blocks. He also managed to drain two three-pointers.

24K Dropoff matched the Miami native with 14 points and six steals himself, while also pitching in four rebounds and four assists on the night.

Though he only scored eight points, Lotty led the team with seven steals, while also pulling down two rebounds and dishing out two assists.

Add it all up, and Miami totaled 21 steals on the night – an eye-opening number against a team that entered the season with high hopes for defending their title.

When it’s all said and done though, despite the memory of a stinging defeat at the hands of New York, there are bonds between these two squads that transcend the box score and banners, as Hotshot and Goofy757 exchanged their jerseys following the match (the two are longtime friends from the iBall Empire group before their time in the NBA2KLeague.)

Up next for HEAT Check Gaming is a pair of games in Week 2 – a rematch against Bucks Gaming Thursday, April 18 at 6 PM ET, and Wizards District Friday, April 19 at 9 PM ET.
