Recap: HEAT Check advances to Semi-Finals, falls short against Celtics Crossover Gaming

HEAT Check Gaming earned their way into Saturday’s NBA 2K League TIP OFF Tournament single-elimination bracket by securing the lone wild-card slot available to teams who didn’t win their groups.

Game 1: HEAT Check Gaming 67, Bucks Gaming 53

In their first match of the day in the quarter-finals, Miami went on to defeat Bucks Gaming, winners of Group 7, 67-53. Leading the pack for HEAT Check Gaming was Majes7ic, who shot 7-of-8 from the field, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, for 18 points, to go with four assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Not far behind was Lotty, who shot 7-of-10 from the field for 16 points to go with a pair of steals. The rookie, who was playing on a lockdown archetype, helped make sure the Bucks Gaming backcourt of Chaddynick and ARooks (Lotty’s long-time friend outside of 2K) would not get going.

“It started with just defense first, I’m a defensive minded player,” said the rookie when talking about how he held ARooks to just 3-of-8 shooting from the field, including zero three pointers on four attempts. “That’s my brother, but when we play that game, I don’t even know him at all.”

The Bucks duo dished out as many assists (7) as turnovers, forcing the bulk of Bucks Gaming’s scoring to come from their front court – BigMeek, who scored 21 points, while Plondo dropped 12 points, combined for 33 of Bucks Gaming’s total 53 points.

Hotshot finished up with a well-balanced stat line of his own – the big man scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including his first three of the season (as a Center) to go with a team-high seven rebounds and four assists.

Game 2: Celtics Crossover Gaming 46, HEAT Check Gaming 44

In their second match of the evening, HEAT Check Gaming couldn’t achieve the result they were looking for against a Celtics Crossover Gaming squad that found just the right shots at just the right time.

oFAB, who scored 17 points to go with a game-high eight assists, found his teammate Profusion for a pair of late threes to push Boston ahead of Miami for the win.

Hotshot led the way for HEAT Check Gaming, earning his second double-double of the tournament with 14 points and 14 rebounds to go with three steals and three assists.

Meanwhile, the rookie backcourt of Lotty and JMoneyRep817 combined for 21 points. The first round pick of this year’s draft shot 4-of-5 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from three in his second straight double-digit scoring game.

Despite missing out on an opportunity to compete in the TIP OFF Tournament Finals, Famous Enough is encouraged by what he saw in this tournament and is looking forward to the regular season.

“Not winning the Tournament is never the ideal outcome you want, but the team proved that we will be making noise again this year.”

HEAT Check Gaming will be back in the studio Wednesday night at 9 PM, facing off in a Finals rematch against Knicks Gaming.
