Recap: Pacers Gaming 52, HEAT Check Gaming 65

HEAT Check Gaming GM/coach Famous Enough shed his trademark purple afro for the first time all season. And his team shed its tendency to collapse at the end of games as it never relinquished the lead on the way to a dominant 65-52 victory over Pacers Gaming Friday night.

“It starts with defense and ends with the bigs,” said Famous Enough. “If we play like that every game, we don’t lose.”

From the start, HCG had energy that seemed to take Pacers Gaming out of rhythm as the Miami squad went on an 8-0 run to end the frame with a 17-7 lead. That momentum carried into the second quarter as power forward Hotshot and point guard MaJes7ic combined to outscore the entire Pacers team 25-21 at halftime on the way to a 35-21 advantage.

The third quarter saw Pacers Gaming begin to find its footing as it exploded on a 12-2 run to cut the lead to 37-33. But HCG kept its composure on the strength of Hotshot as it closed the quarter scoring six of the final eight points in the period to take a 43-35 lead.

“Honestly, we went stagnant,” said Hotshot, who lead all scorers with 22 points along with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. “They were playing great defense this quarter and we struggled. But we ended the quarter strong and once we extended that lead, we didn’t let it go.”
