Recap: RUG 81, HCG 73 / HCG 67, GG 72

The regular season may be over for HEAT Check Gaming, but the second season known as the playoffs is just beginning.

Though HCG lost its final two games of the regular season Saturday to Raptors Uprising GC (81-73) and Grizz Gaming (72-67), the club clinched a sixth seed in the NBA 2K League playoffs with an 8-6 record.

“It was a long season and everybody’s tired, but (getting to the playoffs) is what we played for,” said HCG GM/Coach Famous Enough.

After a 3-4 start to the regular season, HCG reeled off five straight wins and entered Saturday with a chance to clinch the No. 2 seed in he playoffs with a pair of wins. Having clinched a playoff berth Friday night as a result of a Wizards District Gaming win over Knicks Gaming, the goal of a two seed came to an end in the morning game as the club took on a desperate Raptors squad fighting for their playoff lives. Despite 35 points and 11 rebounds from HEAT Check star Hotshot, the squad had no answer for a balanced Raptors team that controlled the pace from start to finish on the way to punching their own playoff ticket.

In the afternoon matchup with Grizz Gaming, HCG tinkered with the lineup inserting Hyper Is Pro instead of Sharpshooterlos in the starting lineup. The added defense was effective at times, but the total team offense was lacking as Hotshot scored 53 of HEAT Check’s 67 points in the loss.

Despite the two losses to end the regular season, HCG goes into the postseason riding confidence as it prepares to take on Pistons GT in the first round Friday, August 17 with a time to be determined.

“It’s been a roller coaster ride,” said Hotshot. “All we needed to do was get into the playoffs and, now that we’re in here, anything can happen.”
